| Hive Wiki: How Do OCR Products Compare | |
|
A HiveWiki enables web pages to be written collectively in a
simple markup language using a web browser. A single page in a
HiveWiki is referred to as a "wiki page", while the entire
body of pages, which are usually highly interconnected via
hyperlinks, is "the wiki"; in effect, a HiveWiki is actually
a very simple, easy-to-use user-maintained database for
searching or even creating information.

How Do OCR Products CompareMarch 2006Q: I have to scan a number of periodicals to PDFs and recognize the text. I am looking for recommendations as to what product to use ([FineReader]Create?, [OmniPage]Create?, Acrobat, Capture, etc.). Needless to say, the software must allow mergeing the front and back of the pages. OCR speed is an issue, but OCR accuracy is more important. I am interested in what experiences members have had with these and other products and what product they would recommend? A: I continue to compare OCR products, and [FineReader]Create? is far and away the best, for almost all purposes. However, I recommend and use v.6, not the later versions 7 or 8, because of the way they misrecognize some text as "small caps" and convert them to all lower case when the small caps attribute is turned off. It there were a way to turn off small caps recognition altogether I would consider upgrading. From [FineReader]Create? Digest Number 422 From Articles
