Quick Hivewiki Wiki Formatting Tutorial

How Do I Create My First Wiki Page?

This really takes only about 10 seconds to do, but here it is in microscopic detail:

 1. First decide what you want as a title for your new page. Try to use three or four words or more. Something less than 10 words though. Don't have any punctuation in the title other than a dash ("-"), or apostrophe ('). Capitalize the first letter of each word of the title.
 2. Go to TestPage
 3. Look towards the bottom of the page for the link to "Edit Text Of This Page" and click that link.
 4. When the editing window comes up, somewhere on the page, type in Title That You Want Goes Here.
 5. Click the save button
 6. When the test page comes back up, you'll see this on the page: [Title That You Want Goes Here]?.
 7. Click the ? at the end of the title.
 8. You will now be in your new wiki page. Have fun creating the text of your page.

How Can I Create More Pages?

Just use text like this Any Title That You Want Goes Here with titles for the other pages that you want. Save your page, and then you'll see the ? after the ones that don't already exist.

How Do I Create A Link On A New Page To One Of My Old Pages?

Just use text like this Title Of The Page You Want To Link To After you save the page, if you misspell the link to your target page, you'll see a ? in your text instead of an underlined link to your target page.

Hint: Go to the page you want to link to. It's title will be the top text on the page. Use your mouse to highlight the title at the top of the page (for example, "30 Second Quick Wiki Tutorial") then click on the menu Edit then Copy to copy the title to the clipboard. Then go to your webpage, go into edit mode, then type then the menu Edit then Paste, then . That will make a link to the page you want at that point in your page.

How Do I Link To A Page On Some Other Website?

Just put it's complete URL in the text of your page. For example http://www.garnetchaney.com will give you a link to my personal website.

How Can I Put A Picture In My Page?

Chat11 can not store your picture for you. You need to put the picture somewhere else, or find a picture that is already online somewhere. For example

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0763151572.01._PE_PI_SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

will make a link to this picture:

NOTE: If you have a project you would like to do on the wiki, and you need a place to put pictures for your project, I can make some arrangements with you to give you a place to store your pictures. Contact me with details about what you'd like to do, and I'll see what I can do to help you.

How Can I Create Big Text?

Big text is best done as an HTML header.

If you know HTML, you can type in the HTML like this: <h1>Big Text<h1>

Or you can just type in a line with an equal sign at the beginning and end of the text. For example:

Big Text
If you put two equals at the start of the line, and two at the end, the text will be a little smaller than the biggest header, that is it will be H2. More = signs will make for smaller and smaller size (H1 through H6). Here are some examples:

Big Text
Big Text
Big Text
Big Text
Big Text
Is There An Easy Way To Create A Bulleted List Of Items?

Yes! Just put each item on a separate line, starting with a *, like this:
* First Item
* Second Item
* Third item
Will create this: * First Item * Second Item * Third item
If you want the list of items numbered, use a # at the start of each line.
# First Item
# Second Item
# Third item

Will create this:

 1. First Item
 2. Second Item
 3. Third item

How Can I Make Some Bold, or Italics, Text?

You can use HTML tags like <b></b> and <i></i>.

Or you can use simple wiki notation:

 • Put a triple apostrophe at the start and end of the text.
 • You can make italics with a double apostrophe at the start and end of the text.
