Home | Edit | Index | Recent ChangesA reflection on self-esteemArticlesGenesis 2:7 states that God breathed into Adams nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living soul. Adam became a living soul with all the perks including his consciousness about his surroundings and about himself. Anyone conscious of himself is entitled to an opinion on his self. Nothing in the bible denies this right to man. Even God has an opinion of himself when he makes known to man his character. If we can be opinionated about us, what that opinion will be? Self-esteem is a relative concept and as such needs to be construed compared to something. The secular world (people in the world that do not take God into consideration) construes self-esteem comparing man to man or man to objects. Defined this way self-esteem is too fragile and volatile. Abiding by this definition, man is bound to failure. Self-esteem is defined in the bible based on love. We find our place in the creation tree as children of God which loved our existence by creation and loved our preservation by salvation. True Christians never find the occasion to compare to each other in any aspect. They see beauty in every human being, a beauty which equals the value of Christs blood and deserves their best effort on behalf of their reconciliation with our heavenly father.
