Home | Edit | Index | Recent ChangesDon't Buy The Sprint IP-830W Phone If You Want Inexpensive Laptop Access To InternetPlus, beware of their new so called "fair and flexible" family plans, they are much more expensive than the old onesYou can read what a problem it was to use wireless modem in the Sprint I830W phone to let my laptops use the internet through this phone. The technician spent hours before muddling his way before telling me how to do a full reset on the phone. We finally got the phone to be recognized by another laptop, only to see "Error 67" which means they want me to pay at least $40 extra per month to use the phone as a wireless modem. According to the technician, this is a new scheme they came up with in February 2006, as a way to overcharge their customers for using their phones as wireless modems. I guess too many people are turning off their $80 /mo. aircards. That extra fee stinks, the PPC-6700 can get your laptop on the internet without any such extra fee. The Sprint PPC-6700 was easy to get on the network with the built in WMODEM program. It will even sometimes allow bluetooth to be used to put your laptop on the internet, although it does tend to crash the phone.... Anyhow, I really only need the wireless access a couple times a month, I'm not willing to pay $40 extra month for that. Add to all the hours I wasted discovering this problem, my discovery of how they are doing a screw job with the Sprint's new fair and flexible family plans for IP-830W are a ripoff. They claim I have 30 days to return the phone, and have my old plan restored. The bad thing is that, by the time you get your bill, and get creamed with these extra charges, it's too late to do anything about it. Very nasty move by Sprint. I'm not waiting the 30 days. I only got the phone today, but this IP-830W PDA smart phone is going back tommorrow. More about the Sprint IP-830W Worldphone
